Animeme: Oyome ni Shinasai!

お嫁にしなさいっ!

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkIl1HD3BS4&hl=en&w=425&h=355]

Another one of those viral flash videos from IOSYS. This is a bit lesser known, but they certainly brought the cuteness factor higher here. This song is still rehashed from Touhou music, but not only that, it was actually made from three themes! Unbelievable! And to think that the lyrics make more sense than the Marisa thing…

Total sugary moe~! Touhou seems to be an overflowing source of doujin and meme ideas. I haven’t even played any of those games yet.

Animeme: Nursery Rhyme OP

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRWyoLHF6JM&hl=en&w=425&h=355]

THIS IS LEGEND.

Originally it was just some cute OP for a supposedly cute game, but for some reason it became one of the most parodied opening sequences ever! The good thing about it is the quality of some of those parodies. This is quite a hard piece to spoof, and yet many a MAD-maker proved to me yet again how much time and dedication they have in their hands. There’s just so many of them out there, it’s so hard to cherry-pick the good ones, so the ones featured here are some of my favorites. Searching for “kishimen” (or much better “きしめん”) along with the name of the anime of choice, and chances are there will be one.

Animeme: Marisa Stole The Precious Thing

魔理沙は大変なものを盗んでいきました

The virus that spread like wildfire. IOSYS is famous for making flash animation shots to go along with their doujin music for Touhou, but this remains one of their most memorable work. Before the legend though, the theme was originally in Perfect Cherry Blossom, the seventh Touhou shooter game. Actually, the animation didn’t make a lot of sense, neither does the song itself which is full of Engrish lyric mockery. Despite that, the song is a tremendous hit, and it may have kickstarted the once-limited doujin music industry into one that can take on the big guys. This song is still on my music playlist after more than a year. It’s catchy, it’s cute, and it’s mindless fun.

Moar:
Doll Judgment ~ The girl who played with people’s shapes – This is the original theme. It’s the boss theme for Alice Margatroid. You can hear it has a dark and ominous tone, very unlike the hectic remix.
The Shinigami Stole The Precious Thing – JUST AS PLANNED.

Animeme: 300

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gfZnWVoqZ8&hl=en&w=425&h=355]

Is GAR the right term for this movie? Even before it was shown in theaters, the trailer itself spawned quite a load of bada$$ lines and memes, like the infamous “THIS IS SPARTAAAA!” So… maybe otaku in Japan got thinking of great things on their own eh? Sure enough, they will never hide in the shade. Indeed, it is madness, but is also huge success. I’m making a note here.

Before I drown myself with unrelated memes, just watch these small but awesome collection of 300 spoofs and parodies. The last one is very, very nice.

Moar:
Naruto 300 – Lots of Naruto+300 ideas around but this is the best I’ve seen. Even if you don’t like Naruto, you can appreciate this one.
I shouldn’t spoil this one, just watch and discover it for yourself!

Animeme: Pocky DANCE2

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJUvNcXdalk&hl=en&w=425&h=355]

Pocky + Orange Range + Aragaki Yui = TOTAL DOMINATION. This is a rare but absolutely catchy commercial that only a few people caught and cared to spoof. But still, it’s pure WIN for pocky fans. Look especially at the Hatsune Miku version. Super-moe~!

What else can I say? This should be the dance of the century!

Animeme: Balalaika->Yaranaika

Balalaika

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APLb_orhVb0&hl=en&w=425&h=355]

Wow this song is total bait! We have a very cute Morning Musume girl innocently releasing her single which is the second OP theme of the popular shoujo idol anime Kirarin Revolution, which she stars in. Unfortunately, the internets has some mystical way to put two and two together. What results is a very effective mashup, replacing ‘balalaika’ with ‘yaranaika’ and modifying the lyrics to sound even more ghey-ish. Add 3D animation and it becomes a recipe for awesomeness… even if you hate yaoi. Don’t worry, it won’t bite. It’s a total LOL-fest! Check out the videos below.

Animeme: Kimikiss OP

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnKHsZFkdC8&hl=en&w=425&h=355]

I love the [Kimikiss->kimikiss] opening sequence with a guilty passion. Its simplistic style and catchy music just really made it for me… it’s absolutely adorable! I’m quite sad that it didn’t catch on as much as the other crossover meme spoofs, considering this is one easy-to-spoof video sequence for the video editing peeps out there who have much time on their hands. At least it has a handful of awesomely made videos to its credit. I hope you spoof video makers hear my cry for more Kimikiss OP spoofs. Come on, sing it with me: “Kiss kiss koishiteruyo~~”!

Animeme: Caramelldansen

Caramelldansen

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LpNql5RPtk&hl=en&w=425&h=355]

It all innocently started with the eroge opening in [Popotan->] but then some random otaku genius thought that Swedish dance pop and loli dancing can mix well. The rest is history, with thousands of variations of the iconic dance meme, including not only characters from various anime, manga, games, and doujin, but even real people dancing this rather weird dance. I would agree that the Caramelldansen phenomenon has some sort of charm into it, in which when you see some of your favorite charas you chuckle a bit at its undeniable cuteness. It may get old pretty quickly, but as new ideas revolving around the dance surface on the tubes and the dougas, this one won’t die that easily.

Popotan

Popotan

My…

On the surface it may be just a very boring bishoujo game-based anime full of nekkid bodies of the megane-ko onee-chan, a spunky girl-next-door, and a Komugi-chan-type cute little girl. Oh, also add in a cool/quiet Maid-san and a white pet-creature. Yup, Popotan addresses the needs of almost any type of moe~ complexed boys. On the surface you might find nothing but skin skin skin. It’s the most fanservice-ful anime around, but with very little ecchi to complement that. But despite all the ‘naked truths’ in the surface, I am impressed with the story structure.

The three sisters, a maid, and a pet travel across time and space… along with their house. They go to stay on that specific area for a few days, then ‘magically’ disappear again to another time and/or place. The main dilemma? They meet people, make friends with them, but because they are always ‘travelling’, they leave their newfound friends behind too quickly. Aside from that dilemma, they are trying to search for ‘someone’ as they travel, and they ask the ‘popotan’ (popotan~=tanpopo=dandelions) if the person is in that particular area. Yup, they can talk to flowers, and they also have some magical powers but they were never used too much in the anime. Anyway, the plot thickens when they start returning to the places they’ve already been to, but in a future time. The friends who were left behind, what would be their reaction to their abysmal return? And when they find that ‘person’, can they find the answers they were looking for? All of these combine to provide a very coherent plot full of drama. Yup, behind all the comedy lies beautiful drama. If Kokoro Library were ecchi it would be Popotan. That’s saying how nice the execution of this anime is.

The screencaps show only one of the sisters, Mai (the sisters together are ridiculously named Ai, Mai, and Mii, ring a bell?), because she’s the only one worth mentioning. She has the best personality in this anime, and she has the best stories (not to mention multiple episode counts dedicated to her). I like spunky girl-next-door types in anime (Mako from Da Capo also comes into mind), because they feature a more realistic female character viewpoint. Many other anime girls are very stereotyped and cliche.

So in summary, you would be in for a pleasant surprise when you watch Popotan. It is not as shallow an anime as you may think in the surface.

ANIMEME ALERT!
The opening video of this anime included a rather cute dance by Mai and Mii, which spawned the [Caramelldansen->http://bluemist.animeblogger.net/archives/animeme-caramelldansen/] meme.
