How to make a good story anime/bishoujo style

This April Fools post was indeed my personal sample venture into fanfiction writing. For a [long time now->summer-of-bishoujo-3-project], I’ve been wanting to write my own story, favorably in the style of Japanese anime and bishoujo games. Of course, there are expected challenges in this one. First and foremost, I’m not Japanese, so any culture references are just the usual (unusual) ones already found in existing Japanese anime, manga or games. Secondly, I have to write in English, which means I’m just emulating Japanese similar to the sometimes-wrong translation style in [fansubbing projects->fansubs-serious-business]. Lastly, I don’t consider myself a good writer in the first place.

Despite this though, I still want to have the drive to do it. Whenever I see [other people->hinano-renai-blogger] succeed, I always say to myself that I can do it too. I may not be as good, but at the very least, “get it done darnit”, lol.

In this article I focus specifically on the characters, settings, and plot I envisioned on my own Miya Maruyama story.

Tragedy, Hope

Knowing about the true story of Sakura in anime form was unprecedented for me. Even if I had already [skimmed the surface->dc2-da-capo], I guess the tale can still be told effectively in another way. The most important part of the experience though, is that I can relate somewhat to the character. Yes, Yoshino Sakura’s trials, tribulations and tragedies reflect my own set of current real-life problems. As a result, my heart breaks yet again for this fictional character, and in part, this fictional character gave me a source of reference, reflection and inspiration of myself.

It all innocently started with the eroge opening in [Popotan->] but then some random otaku genius thought that Swedish dance pop and loli dancing can mix well. The rest is history, with thousands of variations of the iconic dance meme, including not only characters from various anime, manga, games, and doujin, but even real people dancing this rather weird dance. I would agree that the Caramelldansen phenomenon has some sort of charm into it, in which when you see some of your favorite charas you chuckle a bit at its undeniable cuteness. It may get old pretty quickly, but as new ideas revolving around the dance surface on the tubes and the dougas, this one won’t die that easily.

Eroge Recession?

Well good riddance, I’ve started playing [the game->dc2] again. I heard there’s the new Da Crapo II Second Season anime, so I should pick up my slack.

On another note though, I think my likehood towards these games is slowly fading for some reason. I don’t think it’s because of my busy real-life schedule, and I recently got my copy of [Another Days->toheart2] too. Is this bishoujo game/eroge/galge industry in some sort of recession? I don’t find any new game particularly exciting. I don’t see many posts about them in english anime blogs either. Somehow there’s doesn’t seem to be much energy in the game genre at all, and I would wonder why. Please read on for my random thoughts.

2007: Year of the Modern Doujin

If I would remember 2007 in anime terms, it is definitely the year when the legend of fan-based content finally entered my consciousness. I know, stuff made by fans (doujinshi, doujin games, etc.) have been around even before the first Comiket, but never has it exploded as much as today. I would mostly blame the internet for that, as with many other things related with such an easy way to connect with other people. Because it’s related to computers though, the term “doujin” would have changed for me. A few years ago, I would consider the majority of doujin as either manga drawn by fans for fans, or programmed games by fans for fans. In 2007, “doujin” now encapsulates almost every form of media ever created. Music, accessories, video… you name it… the fans got it.

– Japan is the primary advancer of technology.
– Advancement of technology means easier and increased communication.
– Increased communication capability causes [information overload->information-overload] due to ease of access.
– With information overload, it is easy enough to get any kind of entertainment you want, [legal or otherwise->bluemist anime blog pirated edition].
– Because you can get anything you want, you also get anything you don’t want, [causing overload on yourself->anime-blog-saturation-2].
– Some people can’t handle the overload, or handles it too much to care about society, and [social misfits are born->bluemist anime blog pirated edition service pack 1].

Ergo: Japan is planning another World War, slowly taking over the world in an indirect way. Someday half the world will be made up of losers who don’t care about life, and shortly thereafter, that half will slowly die out, making it the worst genocide in human history.

Another one of those leechers. And another one.

So many copycats these days.

I am annoyed but I usually leave them be. Usually those are mere web scripts. And they link back to me anyway, which is good. Good enough to help me gain more readership. Unfortunately some readers they invite are those —-tards, you know, the people who hardcore-ly defend their anime as if it were the second coming.

I think it’s about time that I speak against this rapidly annoying form of anime fandom, and hope to find the main problem of which it stems from.

Finally, another controversial anime. Ever since the hugely destructive emo soap opera in the name of Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien left me breathless, I’ve been clamoring for some other show that has all the angst of a mature romance story in anime form. Alas, no other anime ever came close to the greatness of that one… until School Days. But the question is, did School Days topple Kiminozo in my heart? Well, let’s see…
