To Heart 2 Review (Part 4)
Review Coverage: March 21 to 24, April 7-10
I think this is the halfway mark of the series. Many things have happened. There’s spring break, and also we see Konomi finally going to the same high school as Takaki. At this point, I also get to clear up some of my own confusion such as where did Konomi’s junior high friends go.
Some days at spring break (March 25 to April 6) weren’t featured in detail. Some events however were told in flashbacks.
March 21
This day sees the meeting of Konomi and Tamaki. Konomi is very happy to see her onee-san again. Tamaki prepared them a little breakfast, and then offered to go shopping. Takaki is obviously the bag-boy in this event, while the girls are having fun shopping for clothes and… er… girls-only clothes.
March 22
It was all Takaki talking to himself.
March 23
Konomi walks with her dog again. She was thinking on how to give her dog a bath. After school, Konomi meets Takaki, and talks about the upcoming spring break. It would be nice to do something on spring break. Konomi suggested a lot of things, while Takaki suggested a cherry blossom viewing picnic, it is the season of sakura after all.
March 24
Konomi and Tamaki reminds Takaki again about their plans at spring break.
April 7
This day, our gang seems to be spring cleaning with the kids outside. While they’re at it, Takaki remembers his memories of spring break. While the other days were less eventful, on March 30, they actually did the cherry blossom viewing picnic.
April 8
It’s the start of class again, and Konomi finally goes to the same high school as Takaki! She asks Takaki if her new uniform is weird. Also, a big surprise is that Tamaki actually transferred to their school as well! As usual, Konomi is very happy to be with her onee-san, while Yuji thinks it is a nightmare in the making. After class, Tamaki offers Konomi to go to her house, while the boys go to the game center. Konomi, wanting to go both ways, got confused a bit.
April 9
After class, Takaki meets Konomi. Tamaki still doesn’t seem to be around, and so they agreed to go to a nearby cafe without her. Well eventually, Tamaki appears in the cafe, quite angry at Takaki about it, but Konomi is also partly to blame. After that, Konomi’s junior high friends (Chie and Michiru) arrive! Seeing that they have not met Tamaki before, they do their formal introductions. Then the two girls talk to Takaki a bit away from Konomi and Tamaki. Because they are rooting for a Takaki X Konomi love love affair, they see Tamaki as a threat. Nevertheless, they are relieved that Takaki answered correctly their (revealing) questions.
April 10
In the morning, Konomi seems to do morning exercises. Actually, this seems to be preparation for her freshmen physical exams. Takaki sees that Konomi is in a good mood all the way when they walk home together. Well Konomi spilled the beans and embraced Takaki, telling him that she has gotten a bit taller.
We see that slowly Takaki and Konomi’s relationship is getting closer, despite Tamaki’s appearance and Takaki’s continuing stand about not being interested with girls. The addition of Tamaki to the group (now consisting of Takaki, Konomi, Yuji and Tamaki) gives a bit more rapport and comedy to the events that happen everyday. Poor Yuji, I don’t see him bursting out his weird hobbies lately (about robot maids and girls), he is being relegated to be a punching, or rather pinching bag of her elder sister Tamaki. The event at the cafe with Chie and Michiru signifies that slowly both Takaki and Konomi are slowly recognizing their feelings toward each other. It just needs a little more push by the friends. It is further seen by the events at April 10, where Konomi embraced Takaki, an important first.
I’m slowly getting the hang of it. It is really quite challenging this time, and I can only fear bigger challenges ahead when they already talk about more specific things. So far, many events in To Heart 2 are simple, everyday events that can happen to real people given that kind of situation. As a result, simple Japanese conversations are used. As we get more story details from now on, the Japanese may be getting more and more complex, and that will be hell for me. The good news is that I’m now past the halfway mark, and I am confident that I can finish this ridiculous project once and for all.
To Heart 2: April 10
(Street)
Konomi seems to do morning exercises.
“More and more, I want to big like Tama-oneechan.”
“Yup, I wanna be like Tama-oneechan.”
(Park)
We meet with Tamaki, going to school.
(After class)
Went to floor of the freshmen, met with Konomi.
Seems to be in a good mood again.
(Shopping district)
Still good mood, humming a song…
(Riverside)
“Hey hey, Taka-kun”
“Wanna know why I’m happy?”
“Eheee~~”
She was talking about her medical exams (school always does this regularly, mostly physical exams examining their height, weight, and 3-sizes)
It seems she is a bit taller now.
Well, she embraced me, and apparently I’m now carrying her on my back.
“Ah, you don’t believe me do you?”
“It’s true! I really grew up!”
Choice: I commented about her being lighter.
“I didn’t lose weight though, maybe Taka-kun is stronger than before…”
Isn’t it time you let go of me?
“Just a little more, until we get home perhaps?”
No.
“Ehh~ why?”
You’re already big.
“Then I’ll stay like a kid.”
To Heart 2: April 9
(Lockers)
Konomi arrives, Tamaki seems to still be in her class.
I seem to tell her to leave without Tamaki. Good decision.
(Cafe)
Konomi spotted Tamaki walking.
Konomi “Tama-oneechaaa…”
I cover Konomi’s mouth. But no help, Tamaki walks up to us.
Tamaki “So you’re here… I’ve been looking for you”
Ouch, Tamaki pinches me. She isn’t happy with me trying to avoid.
Tamaki “As punishment, buy me some tea.”
Konomi’s middle school friends arrive!
Konomi “Charu! Yochi! It’s been a while!”
(I see… just a different school… and Konomi was crying about how much she’ll miss Michiru and Chie, well, girls. Take note this is the same uniform/school of Ayaka Kurusugawa in To Heart.)
Konomi’s friends notice Tamaki’s… big… you know…
Well the girls make their introductions.
Chie calls me out away from Konomi and Tamaki…
“Who is that?”
Chie still surprised about Konomi having a childhood friend like that, and with her big… you know…
Chie “Which do you like, big? Or small?”
What the heck kind of question is that? (well, you know…)
Chie “Just answer!”
Choice: Small.
Chie “I see, so it’s A isn’t it?” (cup size, you know…)
Chie “I see, I feel relieved”
(Remember the friends are trying to pair Konomi and Takaki, but both are very clueless on these kind of stuff)
Tamaki suddenly put our conversation to a halt.
Michiru “Konomi, do your best.”
Konomi “I don’t understand, but, I will.”
To Heart 2: April 8
(Home)
Konomi arrives in the doorstep, hiding…
“Don’t laugh okay?”
“Promise you won’t laugh okay?”
Here we go, Konomi is now a student in my school!
“Does it look weird somewhere?”
I say it looks good.
“Mother was laughing, dunno why…”
And so we walk together… start of classes again.
Konomi’s singing with happiness.
“Ehee~~~”
More superstitious stuff to give me.
“Lucky color is murasaki (purple). Lucky item is kagami (mirror)”
(Park)
Tamaki “You’re late, Taka-bou”
O my gawd, Tamaki is a transfer student!
Yuji is with her.
“Hmm… you don’t like being with me?”
It’s not like that…
“So, are you happy being with me?”
It’s not like that either…
Konomi embraces her Tama-oneechan.
Konomi “Yatta! I’m together with Tama-oneechan!”
So the four of us go together.
(Gate)
Looking at classroom assignments. Looks like Yuji and I are in the same class again.
Konomi “That nice, I wanted to be in the same class too…”
Yuji still thought of Tamaki’s transfer as a joke.
(After class)
Yuji thinks of going to the arcades or karaoke…
He asks some girls (probably the freshmen) to join us… obviously… no one agreed.
(Gate)
Oof… Yuji suddenly wanted to run.
Well it’s because of Tamaki obviously.
Tamaki suggests to wait for Konomi, but Yuji says that it may take a while because of freshmen orientations.
Well we wait.
Konomi says she will not join any clubs so that she can go home with us.
So where will we go next?
(Streets)
Tamaki “Game center? Karaoke?”
Tamaki “Game center… no way, dirty places.”
As for karaoke…
Tamaki “Karaoke is… it doesn’t seem to fit me…”
Well Yuji still wants to go.
Tamaki just offered Konomi to go to their house to eat… what the heck is a “totomiya no casterra?”
Konomi seems so happy, and…
(Maybe she wants to be with Takaki too, so she’s kinda confused on who to go with…)
Got dizzy…
To Heart 2: April 7
(Home)
The gang wakes me up to help in spring cleaning.
I receive a call from my mother too.
I was told to follow Tama-chan’s orders… boo.
(Playground)
Well, we clean the grounds along with kids.
(Afternoon)
They seem to be in good mood.
I remember some memories from spring break.
(March 27)
Yuji seems to say something about Rino Ogata again.
(March 28)
Playing baseball perhaps.
(March 29)
A day with the dog.
(March 30)
Preparing for the sakura viewing picnic.
(Picnic)
Konomi “It’s beautiful”
Tamaki “Seeing this, how many years I’ve missed this?”
Tamaki “The last time I did… I see, that time…” (what’s that time?)
Konomi “It’s like it’s saying okaerinasai (welcome home) to Tama-oneechan”
Tamaki “Maybe.”
Konomi “Yup, surely.”
Tamaki “I see”
Yuji “Yea right, as if.”
Tamaki hits Yuji.
To Heart 2: March 24
(Outside)
Konomi didn’t walk Genjimaru today because the dog is kinda tired from yesterday.
(Park)
We meet Tamaki. She walks with us.
(Intersection)
Konomi’s humming a tune and seems happy.
“Because, tomorrow is your spring break isn’t it?”
“Because, you promised to go out once it’s spring break.”
Tamaki is now informed of my spring break.
Both “Looking forward to it”
(School)
Well, I guess our class is over… SPRING BREAK!
Konomi meets me at the gate.
“I came to pick you up, let’s go out somewhere”
Oof, Tamaki is also there.
(Home)
Went to bed.
(This is the end of the events in March! Apparently To Heart 2 will skip spring break, so the next events will be from April 7 onwards. I smell To Heart 2 sidestory games.)
To Heart 2: March 23
(Outside)
Konomi talks about giving her dog a bath.
(Street)
Konomi talks about me having the finals tomorrow, and after that, spring break.
“Hey, since Tama-oneechan has come home, let’s go somewhere with everyone this spring break…”
“Hmm… beaches, climbing mountains, amusement parks are also great…”
I seem to contradict her wide imaginations, so she asked me where would I like to go…
“Ohanami?” (cherry blossom viewing, basically picnics under sakura trees)
“Ohanami… it’s nice too”
“Do you remember that time? See, when we were still kids… when we were all together with our families…”
I remembered something embarrasing about Konomi, so…
“Why do you still remember something like that? Forget it!”
To Heart 2: March 22
(I really don’t know what happened this day. It was all Takaki talking to himself. Not that it’s important… I hope.)
To Heart 2: March 21
(Room)
That’s weird, I turned off my alarm clock, but it rang again.
Whoa, Tamaki!
I ran downstairs and called Yuji. Yuji seemed to pick up the phone, so I tell him that his sister is here.
Yuji, suddenly acted like a speakerphone message (Leave your message after the beep). Obviously he doesn’t want any concerns about her sister.
Tamaki’s investigating my room. Hmm… no sign of adult magazines. I’m really not interested in girls.
Tamaki picked me up, asking me to go shopping with her. Of course I try to decline, but she insists.
She throws a tantrum!
“Why? It’s just shopping!”
Starts kicking stuff!
Well, I forcefully agreed.
Goodness, I want to change clothes but Tamaki is still in the room.
Now she strangles me!
“I’ll dress you up myself…”
Tamaki is starting to become devilish…
O my gawd! Konomi arrives!
Konomi “Whoa! Sorry! Wrong room! But it’s really Taka-kun’s room…”
Tamaki “It’s been a while, Konomi”
Konomi “Tama-oneechan?”
Konomi “Welcome back!”
Tamaki “From now on, we’ll be together, always together”
Konomi “Really?”
Tamaki “Really really, that’s why I came back you know…”
Konomi “Ahaa… yatta!”
Konomi now will join us in the shopping.
(Living Room)
Tamaki prepares us coffee and breakfast, and lectures me about eating more healthy food for breakfast.
Tamaki says that she met my grandparents as well.
(Shopping District)
Tamaki’s making me carry a lot of bags from all the shopping.
Tamaki and Konomi looks through clothes. Konomi found one she liked. Tamaki buys it for her as a present.
Konomi “But it’s kinda expensive…”
Tamaki “It’s alright, you’re almost like a sister to me”
Konomi “Umm… Tama-oneechan, I have a favor to ask…”
She asks for Tamaki’s old, grown out clothes that she doesn’t use anymore.
Tamaki “Awww… you’re so cute! I would have been so happy to have Konomi as my real sister.”
Tamaki “Besides, Yuji and Takaki has no girlfriends for me to play with…”
Apparently, I blush here at the thought of “girlfriend”… (maybe Takaki is starting to take interest)
Konomi “Taka-kun? You seem pale, anything wrong?”
I put up an excuse by blaming it on the heavy shopping bags.
Tamaki “By the way, what color do you like? Black, Pink, or Water Blue?”
Choice: Water Blue (same as me, bluemist!)
Tamaki “Hmmm… so you like shiny blue stuff… you’re a shima-shima maniac…”
(Shima-shima, tell me if I’m right, it’s something shiny right?)
Konomi “Taka-kun… I see you like those…” seemingly embarrased.
Tamaki seems to hand to me something… er… embarrassing… a shiny girl’s lingerie perhaps?
I turn away and distance myself from the two.
