This third OVA episode marks the debut of [Sasara Kusugawa->toheart2-sasara-kusugawa], one of my favorite scenarios in the game. While the OVA series is completely filler and did not follow the events of the original game, it’s perfectly fine that way. What we have here is a typical school festival episode, and our main star is more than ready to strut her stuff as student council president. I bet with Sasara’s mature and assertive appearance everything would go well right? Err… not if you’re against Ma-ryan.
So basically, Ma-ryan is bored at Sasara’s plan of “normalness” in the upcoming school festival, so while preparations are underway, she’s gonna make it more lively… literally. As Ma-ryan runs away from Sasara and Takaaki to oversee her “plans”, tons of complaints start flowing to them two. Sasara and Takaaki look at classroom after classroom and discover ‘weird’ school festival preparations, like a bunch of ‘educational’ (wink~wink~) books in a classroom, obstructive Haunted House setup in the hallway, meido photo shoot in the AV room (by Yuji no less), extreme chemical explosions by Karin, and power-hungry DJ concert show by Ruuko.
After fixing all those problems, they take a little break at the student council room. Takaaki, being the awesome that he is, knows what kind of food Sasara likes, so he offers to buy Sasara some hamburgers. I guess he doesn’t want Sasara to starve and just eat a “Calorie Nate” or something. Sasara-chan cuteness overload!
A while after, they were fixing more stuff outside… until suddenly the school gates close off. Ma-ryan shouts stuff at the school speaker system, then unveils with her big “plan”! Err… some weird statue. Ma-ryan says that this is a pre-school festival party! Many students start to flock outside, which means chaos. Again, Sasara and Takaaki has to save the day, and so they decide to capture the root of the problem – Ma-ryan. As they try to find the culprit, Ma-ryan appears and abducts Takaaki! Sasara is now desperate, searching room after room to find her enemy (and her damsel in distress lols), until she finds them on the rooftop. Sasara confronts Ma-ryan, saying that she has gone too far. Ma-ryan finally surrenders, but not without a final ace up her sleeve… she just launched some fireworks and lights, and some dance music! A teacher now notices all the chaos and calls Sasara out to explain.
It’s not all bad though, I think Sasara actually likes all the chaos that’s happening… mostly because she spent the whole odd day with Takaaki. And so with the sort-of prepared school dance event, Takaaki offered Sasara to dance together.
I don’t normally like well-endowed, student council types, but Sasara’s cuteness is off the charts in this one. It’s quite confusing that she’s all dere and no tsun in the anime because she had an ice cold composure early on in the original game, but I do approve of this. Many of the To Heart 2 characters are present too, and nicely animated too, giving color to the otherwise lame episode plot. I also liked how they used some of the music in the game, which is better than the anime ones. Overall a decent To Heart 2 episode.
