I’m a bit ok this time, but towards the end, it got quite confusing. In any case, Yuma’s scenario had gone quite smoother than Manaka’s, at least I never saw myself scratching my head all the time. Thanks to moyism also for helping me figure out the story!
I could say that Yuma Tonami has the look of To Heart’s Aoi (a bit older), but with the attitude of Shiho (a lot angstier). Yuma is quite unlucky towards Takaki. Whenever he’s around, Yuma just gets freak accidents. Many times, she hits him with her bike. Ever since, they have been quite the rivals… quite the enemies. Considering that Yuma is a loudmouth, she always throws sinister words to Takaki everytime she goes into a freak accident with him.
On the other hand, after a few days pass, it seems that Yuma often appears to Takaki, as if she wants ‘attention’. One time Yuji notices it, and that leads to a tease. Yuma frankly explains though that “Takaki doesn’t concern me one bit!”. More days pass, and it seems that everytime Takaki goes to the vending machine, Yuma is there. Well, it just leads to a not-so-friendly stare I guess.
Challenge
This bike accident triggered it all. Yuma declared ‘this is war!’. And finally her signature line: “Don’t think you have already won!” Starting from there, they have been fighting and fighting. They have been challenging each other, most especially in the game center. And it seems that Takaki is winning ALL the time. They also did tennis, and Takaki won. Yuma challenged Takaki in eating, he wins also. Everytime they go somewhere, Yuma puts some sort of challenge. Takaki always wins.
Affection
Yuma starts to ask and take Takaki to places, I think she’s developing affection. They go to cafes, the temple, and Marvel Burger. When Yuma got wet at school, Takaki helps her out. Yuma also pretended to talk toi Takaki about English lessons, but I guess she just wants attention.
Daniel
One day though, she drags Takaki into a certain mess. She’s trying to run away from a certain old man. Another day, in the temple, Takaki is seen eavesdropping at Yuma and the old man. I think the old man is her ‘butler’. Yup, Yuma, the outgoing girl, is actually an ojou-sama of sorts, and is closely related to the Kurusugawa group for some connection we don’t know yet. I guess the butler (Daniel) talked about family matters, and Yuma is not interested. It seems that Yuma doesn’t like the mold of her family for some reason. Yuma finds Takaki, and now it has lead to more trouble. A pretend boyfriend? Yuma asks Takaki to be with her until graduation. Ever since, Daniel the butler has been the annoying old man who appears all the time, and laughs all the time. Hmm… after all it’s a butler’s duty to look out for the princess.
Feelings
At the same time, Takaki and Yuma are getting closer. One time they enjoy the cherry blossom trees. They also go to the school roof to hang out. Yuma lets Takaki ride together in her mountain bike.
Manaka
Manaka is Yuma’s friend, and so she knows a lot about her. Including one that slipped… Yuma’s childhood dream was to be a wife. Whoa! Dunno if it has important implications though…
Glass Door
One day they also had a date in an aquarium… of course with the butler as chaperon. After that, they go into this walkway with a glass door in the middle, going to an elevator. They got seperated by the glass door. Yuma suddenly exclaims a somber, “good for you.”
Change
Here we go. As Takaki goes up the roof, Yuma is seen talking to herself. “I guess I can’t say it…” What is that thing that Yuma can’t say? In any case, they had their usual challenge match, this time, ping pong. I think this is an important challenge for Yuma, because when she loses (yet again), she walks out. The next day, Takaki is trying to find Yuma, but he can’t find her. The next day, he asked Manaka about where “Tonami” is, but Manaka said, “Who is Tonami?” Quite unsettling isn’t it? Where has Yuma gone? Is she just a dream? Hehe no way. The next day, Yuma appears in front of Takaki, this time wearing glasses, with a quiet composure and formal way of speaking. This is Yuma’s real personality, as said by Manaka. Actually Yuma’s real family name is Nagase (she may be the daughter of the Kurusugawa group’s robot specialist, meaning she’s real rich). Actually, Manaka is surprised herself that ever since Takaki came into Yuma’s life, she has changed and is full of energy. But this current situation has her going back into the life she never wanted.
Help
Manaka finds a way to bring Takaki and Yuma close together again, using a library event. I thought it would work, but then after a few days, the butler called Takaki and said that Yuma has fled home. Takaki rushed to find her somewhere, and then he remembers her somber act on the glass door, and so he went there. Indeed, Yuma (without glasses) is standing behind the glass wall.
“Do you want to take me back?”
I think her main problem is that of “future”. Her being part of a rich family, she may be expected to be a level above everyone else. But she doesn’t want a boring life like that, having few friends, and so she took a stand and planned to change herself. This is the changed Yuma that Takaki first met, the outgoing, angsty one. But, this is a problem of pretending. When Yuma already realizes her love for Takaki, she can’t say it, partly, because it’s not her true self, and also because she is always losing to him in the various challenges. I guess she took those seriously, in that she never had the courage to say how she really feels, and who she really is. She can’t see her future anymore trying to mold out of her family constraints, so she goes back to her usual self. But then, Takaki wants to take her back, and it doesn’t matter who she really is. Takaki started banging the glass wall, and then it finally broke. They finally accepted each other’s feelings.
Epilogue
At the epilogue, we see Yuma and Takaki on a date. Wearing glasses, but with that same funky attitude, I guess Yuma has finally transcended. Props to Takaki for this one.
Whew, that was quite enjoyable. Manaka is quite prominent in this one too. My favorite girls in bishoujo games are those of the girl-next-door type, but Yuma is in a class of her own. Imagine changing from being ojou-sama to being a cool girl. Nice one Yuma!
This is a [Summer of Bishoujo->] feature
That would be a nice subplot in the anime- very interesting.
Keep up the great work and thanks .
It is just me or do Yuma bears more uncanny similiarites to Tomo of Azumanga Daioh fame?
Ok well, during March when you keep selecting Yuma, the reason Yuma was getting pissed off was that Takaki just happens to buy the drink that she wants……and it just happens to be that the one Takaki buys is the last one in the vending machine! XD This happens two times, and the third time, Takaki actually buys the other one cause the one he wanted was out of stock, but she mistakenly presumes that Takaki bought the last one again . Can you imagine just how unlucky she is? XD
Great! I was always wondering what was going on during the soda machine scenes 🙂 Since I know absolutely no japanese. XD
Finally remembered to post here. There’s some interesting trivia concerning Yuma’s grandfather, AKA Daniel. He seems to be a chief computer programmer with Kurosugawa Electronics, Sango (a genius programmer herself) seems to be working for him as he gets mentioned a lot by Sango in the Himeyuri twins scenario. (Sango calls him Nagase oji-san. )
Also, in Manaka’s scenario, we find out that Daniel used to attend the same school as Takaaki and used an old library book to exchange love letters with a lover (Yuma’s grandmother? ), as seen from the library logs on the book, which is now kept by Manaka.
Simply the coolest old guy in the game. 😀
is this from a game or from the anime?
I just finished the Yuma scenarion, and thought I could add a little to your description (mind you, I’m not fluent, but have studied japanese for a bit… although still, i’ll bet my ‘additions’ have some errors too ^^;). Of course, perhaps you knew and were summarizing, in which case, gommenne, ignore me ^^;
The time Yuma gets soaked at school, Takaaki doesn’t do the logical thing and bring her her PE clothes like she says… he’s too embarassed to go into her classroom and get them in front of the other students, so he actually goes out and spends $40 to buy a new set for her. Yuma uses this is as an excuse when she invites him to the movie the next day.
If I understand correctly, Daniel is Yuma’s grandfather, and a butler. When Yuma was young, she used to say she wanted to grow up to be like Daniel, and the reason Daniel is upset when we first see him is because Yuma doesn’t feel that way anymore.
During their ping pong match, Takaaki thinks to himself that this may be his only chance to hear what Yuma has to say, so he purposely throws the match. Yuma sees through this immediately however, and is very upset.
Oh yes, and the whole thing about the glass corridor between the two buildings — I think Daniel says that there’s an old legend — if two people kiss at sunset at that place, they’ll live happily ever after (it used to be a different building, but it was torn down and the towers stand in its place now).
The date at the aquarium was actually without a butler chaperon — Daniel was distracted by a kitten or something at a store in front, so Takaaki and Yuma leave him behind and go in by themselves.
The little dolls holding each other in the final cg are the “mascots” as they seem to call them that Takaaki and Yuma got at the mall. Yuma picked them out because they looked like they herself and Takaaki. She gives the one that looks like Takaaki to him, and she keeps the one that looks like herself… she says it’s too embarassing to trade them. On the day Yuma and Takaaki go to the glass corridor for the first time (after the aquarium date), I believe they hold up the dolls to the glass and have them kiss or something. That’s why Yuma says “good for you.” Takaaki also thinks to look for Yuma in the glass corridor on the final day because he looks into his bag (that he hasn’t noticed that he’s been running around with for hours), sees his doll, and remembers that day.
Also in the final cg is that red octopus — earlier at the arcade, one of Yuma’s challenges was one of the crane games. If you could get a red octopous it was 100 points, 5 and 3 points for the other colors respectively (…so Takaaki figures out that Yuma really wants the red one). He’s not able to get it, and they part for the day, but, it really bother Takaaki and he decides (well, the player gets to choose :P) to give it one last go. He’s successful, and gives it to a highly embassed Yuma the next day at school. ^_^
Well, hope that will prove useful for someone, if there are errors, please lemme know.
The game show alot more details than the series on Tv. But that’s good that Taka and Yuma finally got along and such… They’d look really happy together… Sorry for the short and boring relpy, but I couldn’t think of anything else to say on here… This is my first comment. Sorry everyone for my short short reply…
